Honoring our Local Heroes Application
Wayne Township is seeking to honor its local veterans and those currently serving in the United States Armed Forces through decorative banners to be placed along local roadways. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis.
The deadline to submit an applications for 2023 has passed, please apply before March 1, 2024 to have a banner displayed along Township roads in 2024.
Eligibility RequirementsAn individual is eligible to participate if they are serving or have served in any one of the following branches of the United States Armed Forces:
- Air force
- Army
- Coast Guard
- Marines
- Navy
- Women serving in the WAVES program
- U.S. Merchant Marine or as Airforce Services Pilots in World War II are also eligible
Applicants must also meet the following criteria:
- Are active duty, retired, honorably discharged or killed in action. Honorees may be living or deceased at time of application.
- Have lived in Wayne at any time in the past or present.
Banners will generally be displayed between Memorial Day and Labor Day along Township and County roads in Wayne, NJ. The Township of Wayne reserves the right to screen applications and to remove a banner for any reason.
How to Apply
Applications may be found online at Honoring our Local Heroes Application or inside the Parks and Recreation Office.
Complete the application form and provide required documentation along with high resolution photograph. Completed applications may be emailed to: Parks & Recreation or dropped off in the Parks & Recreation Office located inside the Municipal Complex at 475 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ 07470. Applications may also be submitted electronically online at
There will be no fee to if the service member was killed in action. For honorees who were honorably discharged, or are current active duty, there is a one-time fee of $175.00 for a flag and banner set. Fees will be collected upon receipt of completed application and verification of status.
