Information Technologies

The Division of Information Technologies (IT) is responsible for the direction, execution and support of information technology and communication systems across Wayne's enterprise infrastructure. This includes the study, design, development, implementation, support and management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications, computer hardware, telephone systems and radio communications. IT primarily deals with the use of computers and computer software to securely store, process, and retrieve information.

The IT Division is headed by Chief Information Officer Andres Murcia, and is located in the Health Department Wing of Town Hall, consisting of several environmentally controlled computer rooms township wide, an environmentally controlled telecommunications room, training classroom, a technician's lab and administrative offices.

IT encompasses many aspects of government computing and technology, and the Information Technology umbrella has become quite large, covering all disciplines within Wayne Township's operations, from Public Safety, Telecommunications, Property Assessment, Human Resources, Financial Services, Building and Planning, Infrastructure Management, Health and Human Services, and Library Science, just to name a few. Advising senior management of emerging technologies that will enhance their ability to make informed business decisions is a focal point of IT's responsibilities.

Wayne Township's IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that Wayne's IT professionals perform include data management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database and software design, as well as the management, administration and problem resolution of all technology systems. A key IT goal is developing and implementing procedures and guidelines to enhance data integrity, system maintenance, reliability and security.

Under statutory authorization, Wayne IT has Interlocal Service Agreements with the Wayne Public Library ,the Wayne Board of Education, and the Wayne Police Department to provide a centralized and consolidated IT approach. Further, we have an additional Interlocal Agreement with PALS Plus, the Computer Consortium of Passaic County Libraries, which Wayne IT works hand-in-hand with to facilitate inter-agency library services. In addition to cost savings, Wayne's Interlocal arrangements offer improved efficiency through a reduction in technology duplication, coordination in administration, operations and joint planning, and providing greater uniformity of services delivered among these entities.

Wayne Township is a member of the New Jersey Government Management Information Sciences (NJ-GMIS) chapter of GMIS International, the association of government information technology leaders. The association provides an organizational structure, personnel networking, and activities to enhance coordination among state, county, local government and public school agencies. Wayne Township participates in NJ-GMIS to promote a forum for the exchange of ideas, information and techniques, and to foster member's knowledge of hardware, software, communication, security, policy and other developments as they relate to government activities.
