Coronavirus (COVID-19) Guidance
The Wayne Township Health Department, along with Wayne Township Office of Emergency Management, is monitoring this rapidly evolving situation closely. We are in regular contact with the Passaic County Health Department, NJ Department of Health (NJDOH), and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure that accurate and timely information is being provided.
While community spread has been observed here in New Jersey, the CDC is stating that the risk of serious health outcomes to the general public remains low. While the majority of COVID-19 patients do not experience serious outcomes, the two groups that are most at risk for serious outcomes are the elderly, and those with underlying chronic health conditions. Testing for COVID-19 is available through healthcare providers, however, it is advised that other possible causes for symptoms, such as influenza or other viruses, are ruled out first prior to testing for COVID-19. If a COVID-19 test comes back positive, the Wayne Health Department is notified through the electronic Communicable Disease Registry and Surveillance System (CDRSS), and the result is considered ’presumed positive" until it can be confirmed by the CDC laboratory. As of this writing, there are no presumed positive cases of COVID-19 in Wayne Township.
If you are ill and have symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, it is recommended that you stay at home and do not attend public gatherings or go to work/school, and to call your healthcare provider.
If you are not ill and have no symptoms, practice good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, avoid sick people and, adhere to social distancing recommendations.
